Congratulations to mom and dad, your baby boy or girl is finally here! Yet mom still looks like there is one more baby coming.  This is the baby fat that is left over after pregnancy and now the challenge is to figure out how to lose that post pregnancy weight.

The natural way to lose your pregnancy weight is to begin breast feed your new child.  Breastfeeding will help in contracting the uterus which in turn helps get your abdominal flat.  Breastfeeding will help melt away those unwanted pounds by burning about 500-800 calories per day.  But beware that when you are getting rid of those additional calories, it doesn’t give you free reign to up your caloric intake.

Here are a couple of steps you can take when you are looking into weight loss.  First, get the postpartum checkup done and when you get the thumbs up, then you should begin a workout program.  Do not rush into an extreme workout as your body needs to get used to exercising.  Your muscles may have degenerated a bit if exercise were not in your regime during your pregnancy.  An good proposition is to obtain some safe postpartum exercises from your doctor.  Breastfeed before your workout will give you a great workout as you won’t feel held down by the weight of your breast.

One of the simplest exercise that you can begin with to lose pregnancy weight is walking.  If slimness is your goal, walking is a great way to help get moving.  Two ways you can look at your walk.  First way is to walk with your baby in a stroller. The stroller will provide a natural resistance.  To add some challenge, try some hills!  Walking with your baby in a baby carrier is the second benefit.  The extra weight helps with making your exercise more challenging.  There are two benefits that come with the second method.  First benefit is baby gets to have a comfortable sleep.  The second benefit is that you are providing some snuggling time with your baby and at the same time do some exercise.

Next thing to focus on when you want to lose pregnancy weight is to eat purposefully.  Munching on lots of fruit and vegetables.  You should also look into eating some lean meats, healthy grains.  You can also try something exciting and nutritious like tofu and lentils.  Consuming lots of water is very important especially if you are breastfeeding.  Oh, did I mention the importance of consuming water.  Intent to drink at least 10 glasses of water every day.  When you are hydrated, your attraction to unnecessary high caloric junk food is lessen.  Breast milk supply will be in abundance if you keep yourself hydrated.

The most important thing to remember is to set realistic weight loss goals.  This is the way to keep yourself motivated on how to lose pregnancy weight.  9 months is what it took to obtain all the pregnancy weight.  Why would you think it is going to take less time to lose that weight?  It takes time so take it slow but be commited in your goals.

A good way to get over the feeling of defeat is to join some moms group for support.  Keeping a positive mindset is important in your weight loss, so connect with a support network will enhance your success.  Support can come in the form of family inspiritment.  Husbands and Wives that happen to gain weight together might get ambition from losing weight together.  Put a challenge together and start losing the weight together.
